Das Wetter - Absorb
Weather is a part of our everyday experience living on this planet. For this reason, we move our study of German to a discussion of weather. In Germany, for the most part weather is very similar to here in Missouri, however their winter is a little longer and their summer is a little shorter. Most importantly, it does not normally get as hot or dry in summer. In fact, it is not uncommon for Germans to have no air conditioner in their homes. They do not need them like we do. Also, tornadoes are very uncommon in Germany. They are more frequent here because of the way the Jet Stream and Gulf Stream meet in the United States. This is what created Tornado Alley. While it is possible for a tornado to form in Germany, it is a very rare occasion and normally a fairly small sized one at that. Typically, when one occurs, it will make international news!
The temperature is in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. This will take some getting use to and you will want to use the Celsius to Fahrenheit conversions available on Google and elsewhere. Remember that the freezing point of Celsius is 0° and the boiling point is 100°, while in Fahrenheit it is 32° and 212°.
